ABOUT TERESSA

Twenty Years of Leadership. Real Lessons. Practical Solutions.

When organizations face complexity, they need clarity. I help leaders strengthen their organizations through healthy leadership, practical strategy, and lasting solutions.

My second pay period as a brand-new Executive Director, I received a call from the bookkeeper that changed everything: We couldn't make payroll.

I was stunned. I believed I was stepping into an organization that understood its financial reality and had the structures in place to move forward. What I discovered was a group of dedicated people who cared deeply about the mission but had been operating without the tools and information they needed to lead effectively. The problem wasn't the people. — The problem was the systems.

Together, we built stronger systems, strengthened governance, created a sustainable plan, and transformed an organization that was struggling to survive into one that was positioned to thrive.

That experience shaped the work I have done ever since.

Since then, I have partnered with Executive Directors, Boards, and leadership teams as they navigate growth, change, leadership transitions, governance challenges, and the everyday complexities of leading mission-driven organizations.

Through consulting, coaching, training, and facilitation, I have helped organizations strengthen leadership, develop healthier cultures, improve decision-making, and create practical systems that support long-term sustainability.

My approach is practical and personal. I don't believe organizations need more complicated strategies— they need clarity, alignment, and solutions that actually work.

I believe strong organizations don't happen by accident. They are built through healthy leadership, intentional strategy, and people committed to a shared purpose.

My mission: Strengthening the organizations that strengthen communities.

What Leaders Are Saying

I had the privilege of working with Teressa Ramsey while she served as a Regional Director of Family Promise. At the time, I was the Executive Director of a chapter under her direction that was navigating significant organizational challenges. Teressa provided the steady guidance, sound judgment, and unwavering support needed to lead us through what often felt like a proverbial minefield. Her ability to assess complex situations, offer practical solutions, and remain calm under pressure was invaluable. Teressa did more than provide oversight, she became a trusted advisor who genuinely invested in our chapter's success. Her leadership helped strengthen both me as an executive and the organization I was entrusted to lead. I remain deeply grateful for her mentorship, professionalism, and steadfast commitment to those she mentors.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes you different from a big consulting firm?

When you hire a large firm, you often don't get the person whose name is on the door. You get whoever they assign you, sometimes a junior associate you've never met. When you work with me, you get me. Every session, every plan, every conversation comes from someone who has personally sat in the Executive Director's chair, run the budget, managed the board, and lived through the exact problems you're facing right now. I'm a company of one by choice, not by limitation. That means no handoffs, no rotating team, and no theory divorced from practice.

Do you only work with large nonprofits?

No. Most of my experience comes from working directly with small and mid sized nonprofits, the kind facing real budget pressure and board confusion, not multimillion dollar organizations with dedicated finance departments. If your nonprofit sometimes feels like it's just limping along instead of moving toward its mission, that's exactly who I work with.

What actual results have your clients seen?

Across the organizations I've supported, over 92 percent improved on key indicators. Sixty percent improved their finances. Thirty percent expanded their services. More than 95 percent of the boards I guided through strategic planning reached the goals they set. These aren't projections. They're outcomes from real organizations doing real work.

Can you share an example of what this actually looks like?

One organization I worked with had struggled for years just to keep its doors open. We spent two days together in a strategic planning session, identifying their real goals and the hindrances standing in their way. During that process, it became clear they needed a different kind of leader, and a sitting board member ended up stepping into the Executive Director role. I coached them through the transition and the plan. Two years later, that same organization had gone from unstable to thriving, and had even doubled their capacity and facilities.

What is the role of the Executive Director versus the Board of Directors?

This is one of the most common questions I hear, and it's often at the root of nonprofit dysfunction. In short, the Board sets the vision, hires and evaluates the Executive Director, ensures financial oversight, and holds the organization accountable to its mission. The Executive Director runs daily operations, manages staff, implements strategy, and reports back to the Board. But the lines are not as crisp and clean as they seem. In practice, they're often blurred and messy. Most nonprofits find a lot of grey area here. I help organizations sort through that grey area and put practical structures in place so both sides know exactly what's expected of them.

How do we create a strategic plan that actually gets used?

A strategic plan only works if it's built with the people who have to carry it out, and if it includes clear, actionable steps rather than vague aspirations. It also needs real buy-in from the people obligated to fulfill it. They have to see the plan, agree the goals are achievable, and be clear about exactly how they're expected to go about achieving them. I facilitate the planning session itself, help you name your real goals and the barriers standing between you and them, and then build a plan your board and staff can actually reference month to month, not something that gets filed away and forgotten.

What does it cost to work with you?

Pricing depends on what you need. Digital resources start at $9.99. Strategic planning sessions and deeper consulting engagements range up to $2,500. For higher priced services, I offer a payment plan: half due at booking, half due before delivery. If you book within two business days of your free consultation call, you'll also receive a 25 percent discount.

Do you offer a free consultation?

Yes. I offer a free 15 minute consultation call. During that call, I'll help you pinpoint three actionable steps you can start working on right away, whether or not we end up working together.

What if I'm not satisfied with a service?

If you've made an honest, good faith effort toward the goals we set together and you're still not satisfied, reach out to me within 30 days and we'll discuss a partial refund. Digital products, because they're instantly downloadable, are not refundable.

I don't know you personally yet. Why should I trust you with something this important?

That's a fair question, and I'd rather answer it honestly than avoid it. I've spent over 20 years in nonprofit leadership, including running my own organization through real financial crises, not just advising from the outside. I hold a Master of Social Work and I'm a licensed social worker. I've trained more than 100 nonprofit organizations across the country and facilitated 50 board strategic planning sessions. But more than credentials, I've been exactly where you are. I know what it feels like to get the call that payroll can't be made, and I know what it takes to work through it.
